1. What is The Libby Ross Foundation?

1) The Foundation is a not-for-profit organization with a focus on outreach to those afflicted with breast cancer and awareness among our peers. We view the fight against breast cancer as a three pronged attack: (i) support and treatment for the afflicted, (ii) research for a cure and (iii) prevention and outreach to promote early detection and awareness. We want to participate in all these areas, yet we are focusing most on those areas that we believe are often overlooked.

2. Why did you start the Foundation?

The Libby Ross Foundation was founded in loving memory of Elizabeth (Libby) Ross. Both of the founders have had first hand experience with breast cancer in their families. The Foundation was started to prevent other women and other families from experiencing the devastation of breast cancer.

4. What does "One in Seven " stand for?

"One in Seven" represents the statistic that one in seven women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. But more importantly, we hope it serves as a call to action for women and men to realize how common the disease is and that it could easily affect them or someone they love. There are many myths and misperceptions regarding breast cancer and early detection is a critical factor in survival of this disease.

5. What medical organizations do you partner with?

To date, we have made contributions to The Palmetto Health South Carolina Comprehensive Breast Center and The Breast Cancer Research Foundation to support research and treatment. We are providing support and outreach through The Libby Ross Foundation Pink Ribbon Kit Program to The Comprehensive Breast Center at St. Luke's Hospital and Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center New York-Presbyterian Hospital and their Women at Risk (WAR) program.

8. How has the Foundation helped breast cancer survivors?

The Foundation provides support to survivors through The Libby Ross Foundation Pink Ribbon Kit Program and The Libby Ross Foundation Yoga Program. The Libby Ross Foundation Pink Ribbon Kit is given out to women newly diagnosed with breast cancer. The Yoga Program provides well-being and a source of comfort to women who have undergone surgery, chemotherapy or radiation through weekly yoga classes, quarterly yoga workshops and three day Yoga Retreats. Both programs facilitate connections between women who have faced the battle with breast cancer.

9. What is the Foundation doing to promote prevention and early detection?

The Foundation has given significant funding to The Palmetto Health South Carolina Comprehensive Breast Center where our funds are earmarked towards early detection for breast cancer. With the Foundation's yearly donations, the Breast Center has a dedicated screening room that provides equipment and staff to patients that will further the effort to detect the disease. In addition, the Foundation funds research through the Breast Cancer Research Foundation with funds earmarked to specific research projects.
